There will be a Thames Valley flavour to the New Zealand Heartland XV rugby team which is preparing for a three-match campaign in November.
Thames Valley Rugby Football Club’s player of the year, Hayden Wisnewski, has been named among the 26-player squad while Thames Valley’s head coach Hayden Roe will join the Heartland team as its strength and conditioning coach.
Roe said he was also excited for Hayden Wisnewski’s selection to the national Heartland team. The two joined Thames Valley in 2014.
“My first year with the [Thames] team was also Hayden’s so we’re been there together for three years now.
“Hayden performed really well for us this year. He stepped up into the captaincy role half way through the Heartland season and has really led the players well at training, as well as off the field during trips away.”
Wisnewski, playing at hooker, has now notched up 25 first class games, with seven tries to his name, for the Swamp Foxes. He was also the team’s leading try scorer (4) this year.
This year he captained his Waihou club side to the Thames Valley championship.
