Ranfurly Shield Team Announced

Coach Hayden Roe has named a 23 man squad to challenge Waikato for the Ranfurly Shield on Monday June 6 2016 at the Paeroa Domain. Roe has taken the opportunity to include three loan players and a player of origin in his first selection for the year. Captain of the Thames Valley Heartland team in 2014, Brett Ranga, who now turns out for Mount Maunganui Sports in the Bay of Plenty competition returns to the fold as the player of origin for this fixture. Ranga had a handy first year in the Bay of Plenty union, finding himself a place in the Bay Development Team for the season. Things are going well this year and Ranga was only too happy to turn out once more for the Swampfoxes on this auspicious occasion.

Leading tryscorers, Rupeni Vakecegu and Sailosi Baleisolomoni, both from United Matamata Sports get a chance to shine at the next level by being included in Roe’s side for this game. Kieran Whyte, from Onewhero in Counties is the other loan player. Waihou’s Hayden Wisnewski co captains the side along with Moss Doran from Waihi Athletic.

Ranga and Wisnewski are the only two players who took part in Thames Valley’s last Shield Challenge against Counties Manukau at Pukekohe in 2014.
