Errol Kingsbury, Life Member
Thames Valley Rugby Union mourns the passing of and one of the true stalwarts of rugby in our region.
We extend our deepest condolences and aroha to his beloved wife Ngarie and the entire Kingsbury whānau.
Errol’s contribution to rugby was immense, spanning decades of dedicated service. A Life Member of both Thames Valley Rugby Union and Thames Rugby & Sports Club, he held many roles that shaped the game locally. His passion for preserving our history as Club Historian ensured that the stories, milestones, and people who built our rugby community will live on for generations.
Errol managed the Thames Valley representative team and later became a trusted and familiar voice at games across the Valley. He revitalised the Swamp Foxes Supporters Club, proudly wearing the Swampy uniform at matches to rally support. Whether announcing at grounds or reporting on Coromandel FM, Errol kept our rugby community informed, connected, and entertained.
A gifted storyteller, Errol brought history to life with humour and insight. His words at the Thames Rugby & Sports Club 150th reunion captured not only the evolution of the game but the spirit of those who made it possible. Many of his stories, now part of local oral history archives, reflect a life rich in service, friendship, and unwavering passion for rugby.
Rugby was a family legacy for Errol, with his sons proudly representing Thames Rugby & Sports Club further cementing the Kingsbury name in our region’s history.
Errol’s commitment and love for Thames Valley rugby will never be forgotten. His voice, his knowledge, and his dedication remain woven into the fabric of our story forever. As the new season begins, many a beer will be raised in his honour.
