After 18 incredible years as a player, assistant coach, and head coach, Joe Murray is stepping down from coaching the Thames Valley Swamp Foxes.<\/span>

Joe\u2019s journey with Thames Valley Rugby Union has been nothing short of remarkable. As a player, he played 55 games, scored 9 tries, and accumulated 45 points between 2008 – 2015. He stepped into coaching in 2017 as assistant coach alongside David Harrison, helping the Swamp Foxes secure their maiden Meads Cup in 2018.<\/span>

In 2020, Joe became co-head coach. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, from 2021 – 2025 he led the team through 50 games, including two Meads Cup semifinals, two finals, and a Championship win on home turf in Te Aroha in 2024, arguably one of the finest five-year periods in TVRU history.<\/span>

Off the field, Joe\u2019s dedication has been unwavering, supported by his amazing family, wife Lisa and their three children, who have shared countless hours of travel, events, and training alongside him. The friendships and memories Joe has created within Thames Valley Rugby will last a lifetime.<\/span><\/p>\n

Reflecting on his time with TVRU, Joe said:<\/span>
“I will always be a proud Valley man. I\u2019ve made great mates, created history, and been fortunate to coach alongside amazing men. Thames Valley has been a massive part of my life, and now I look forward to cheering on the Swamp Foxes with a beer in my hand, rather than a whistle.”<\/span>

Thames Valley Rugby\u2019s Scott Penney added, <\/span>“It has been an absolute pleasure working alongside Joey. His passion for the game, attention to detail, and unwavering dedication have not only elevated the team but have also made a lasting impact on the entire Thames Valley Rugby community. Joey\u2019s commitment and professionalism have set a standard that will be remembered for years to come. On behalf of everyone at Thames Valley Rugby, thank you, Joey, for your outstanding contribution. We deeply appreciate all your hard work and the positive influence you\u2019ve had on our players and supporters alike. We wish you and your family every success and happiness in the future.”<\/span>

A heartfelt thank you, Joe, for 133 first-class games with Thames Valley as player, assistant coach, and head coach combined, and for your immense contribution to our rugby family.<\/span>
