THAMES VALLEY RUGBY – MEADS CUP CHAMPION’S 2018

THE COMMUNITY’S CUP

The Thames Valley Rugby Union is very grateful for the amazing support received from the community!!

Winning the Meads Cup has resulted in Thames Valley receiving nation-wide attention and messages of congratulations have flooded into the Union’s office.

In December Brett Ranga was named as the Heartland Player of the Year at the ASB Rugby Awards and the Swamp Foxes were nominated in the category for National Team of the Year. This was a real honour which gave due recognition to the Valley’s amazing achievement in winning the Meads Cup for the first time.

With Super Rugby now well underway eyes are now turning towards the HG Leach Senior Club Competition and the coming Representative Season in the Thames Valley.

The Meads Cup has been safely locked away in Valley Headquarters over the summer months but now preparations are well underway for the Swamp Foxes to meet the challenge of retaining this honourable trophy.

The successful coaching team, consisting of Matt Bartleet (head) and his two assistants David Harrison and Joe Murray, have been reappointed for 2019. Once again they will be supported by Lucas McIver as Manager and his Assistant Karl Bishop.

As winners of the Meads Cup Thames Valley are automatically awarded a Ranfurly Shield Challenge against current holders, Otago.  This will be held at the Wanaka Showgrounds on Saturday 13th July 2019.  Tickets will be available to purchase from www.ticketrocket.co.nz from April.  Public can receive the first access to ticket information by registering their details online at www.orfu.co.nz.

The draw for the Heartland competition has also been released. Thames Valley will travel back to Cooks Gardens to take on last year’s semi -finalists Wanganui in Round 2 and then host 2018 runners up, South Canterbury in Round 7.
