Welcome to the 2017 rugby season. The Thames Valley Rugby Union is looking forward to another full year of rugby at all levels within the region. Club Rugby kicks off the season, followed by the Youth Rugby competition a few weeks later and the Secondary Schools soon after.
The Thames Valley Club Rugby competition starts on March 25 with a full round of Senior A and Senior B games. There are nine Senior A teams and eight Senior B teams this year. The Senior C competition will commence mid season. The Club Finals will be held at Boyd Park, Te Aroha on Saturday 29 July 2017.
The Secondary School Finals will be held in Paeroa in mid August while the Youth Management Board has opted to move away from a Finals Day concept held at one venue, choosing instead to play the final in each grade at the home ground of the top qualifier.
The Thames Valley Development Team along with its King Country counterpart will be competing in the Northern Regions Under 85kg competition this year, meaning they will not be in the Stan Meads Cup Sub Union competition.
The Thames Valley Heartland Team has a new coach and management crew this year. Matthew Bartleet will guide the team this year, accompanied by Assistant Coaches Joe Murray and David Harrison, with Lucas Mclver as Manager and Hayden Cruickshank assisting. We wish them well for the season ahead.
The Heartland Team travels to Fluatoria to play East Coast in the opening round of the championship on August 26. The Finals are scheduled for the weekend of 28/29 October 2017 Ted Engebretsen continues in the position of Patron of the Union this year with Kelly Plummer taking on the role of President
Edmond Leahy continues in his role as Chief Executive Officer while Graham Hallett chairs the Board of Management with Grant Dickey as his Deputy.
