Club Rugby Preview 15-4-2017

Note: UPDATE 10.30pm 12/04/17

The Senior A game between Thames and Coromandel that was due to be played on Thursday night has been rescheduled to Easter Monday, 17 April at 2.00pm

There is a full round of Senior A club rugby this Easter Weekend in the Thames Valley competition with one game to be played on Thursday night , one on Friday and two on Saturday.

Thames is at home again this week for another local derby, this time versus Coromandel. The home team has made a good start to the new season and has a two win, no loss record to show for its efforts so far. Having picked up Josh Law and Jarrod Goodall from Tairua and with Ryan Keleher back from injury, Thames has been a much improved side so far this year. They will have to overcome a strong challenge from their neighbouring Coromandel club if they want to preserve their record. This game has been rescheduled to be played at 7.00pm on Thursday night at Rhodes Park.

Cobras returns to Boyd Park, Te Aroha this weekend after two weeks on the road, where they will play host to Paeroa West. Cobras is undefeated after three rounds and will be wary of the visitors. Last season’s records show that Cobras won heavily in Te Aroha in the second round while West won the first encounter in Paeroa. Both teams prefer to move the ball around so there could be plenty of points on offer. – Please note 1pm Kick-off time for this match

Waihi Athletic hosts Mercury Bay at its Kenny Street ground with both sides having lost one game each. These teams played out a tremendous semi final at the same venue in July last year with the home side scoring late to take the game. There has been little between them in the last few seasons and it will probably be the same again this week. This fixture has been rescheduled to be played on Good Friday at 2.00pm

Whangamata has home advantage when Waihou comes to town for Easter. The Red and Whites showed plenty of courage and enterprise against Mercury Bay last week and they will need more of the same against the current champions. Waihou will need to improve on a mixed performance last week and be ready for the Whangamata challenge.

After an up and down beginning to the season, Hauraki North has the bye this week.
